Echoing what Ralph said, I think Expo is likely
a better option than using the Bb ‘Homepages’ tool.
Although this does allow students to
create a profile which can then be accessed via the ‘Roster’, it’s
only within a specific module, rather than system-wide.

Might want to have a look at the
Learning Objects collection of tools. The Expo LX allows students to create pages
and blogs and then share them with not only users on the VLE but to external
organisations as well.
