Dear Rosalyn – Maggie is quite right that there would be crossover with collections policies between yourselves and the county record office – we have a large photographic and ephemera archive here at Beamish, and if you send me your postal address, I can post you a copy of our Access leaflet (which covers object as well as archival collections).  Ours is a specialist archive, but there have been occasions in the past when there has been a conflict of interests.  We are working hard to ensure that this is no longer the case.  Here in the north east there is a regional archives council, in which we take part – perhaps you have one in your region?

Do give a ring if you want to discuss

Cheers

Christine

Ps – Happy Christmas to one and all!!

Dear Rosalyn -
Since you're in Warwick District Council, you might like to contact the Warwickshire County Record Office before you start up an archive of your own.
You mention Acquisition Policies in your e-mail below, and obviously if you hope to collect archival material then there might be cross over with the County Record Office and the material that they would wish to collect.
The Head of Archives is Caroline Sampson and you can contact her by e-mail - caroline [log in to unmask]
I'm sure a discussion would be helpful to both of you!

Dear All

We are currently looking in to the viability of creating an archive alongside our museum and art gallery collections.

Does anyone have any advice/suggestions regarding set up, storage, maintenance, acquisitions policies etc?

I would also be interested to hear if anyone has an archive that is open to the general public and how they manage this.

Please reply via the list or directly to [log in to unmask]

Many Thanks

Rosalyn Smith
