Dear Colleague,
Following the
success of October's UKCGE workshop looking at the New Immigration
Regulations, which was sold-out, there has been a strong demand for a
repeat session. Therefore we are pleased to confirm a repeat of the
session has now been scheduled, please find details
below:
The New Immigration Regulations: Understanding and
Implementation
Wednesday 21st January
2009
Goodenough College,
London
The recent UK HE International report “The UK’s
Competitive Advantage: The Market for International Research Students”, Research
Series 2/2008, highlighted that 42% of research students are from overseas,
capturing a 15% share of the world market, that the UK is highly dependent upon
overseas students, and any changes in trends are
significant.
Total Postgraduate figures for 2006/7
(HESA) indicate that 33% of students are from overseas (73% of these Non-EU).
In addition to the reality of overseas
competition for international students, the UK postgraduate sector is faced with
increased visa fees for students, the introduction of ATAS certification for
non-EU students in STEM subjects and the Immigration Points Based System which
place additional burdens on institutions and raise potential barriers to and
additional financial burdens on applicants.
The workshop aims to brief delegates
on the detail of the Points Based System with particular reference to Tier 4,
Students, to explore implications, and to facilitate discussion on strategies
for dealing with this and other administrative requirements whilst maximising
postgraduate recruitment.
The cost of the workshop is £165 for UKCGE
Members and £215 for non-members.
This includes a delegate pack as well as lunch and
refreshments.
Kind regards
Angus
