Hey all across the pond and on this side of it too,

Are any of you involved in this work?  It sounds fantastic and I think the geographical aspects of the project would be very poignant.

Cheers,
Jen

Subject: LGBT Oral History Project at Galop/Stonewall Housing

From Mark Hutin

Volunteer opportunities:

interviewers and archive researchers

Full training provided!

This is your chance to be involved in Galop and Stonewall Housing's
groundbreaking new oral history project - examining the changes that have
occurred for LGBT people in London, in housing and policing over the last 25
years.

Galop is a charity working with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender
(LGBT)
victims of hate crime and those who have issues with the police.  Stonewall
Housing is an LGBT charity which provides supported housing, advice and
advocacy to help people secure safer spaces to live.

Both organisations have recently celebrated their 25th anniversaries, and
have launched the joint oral history project to mark this celebration.  Oral
history is about recording people's memories using the medium of sound
(although video is now increasingly being used in other projects).  This can
be used as a tool for understanding the recent past, and enables people who
have been hidden from history to be heard and the communities they
represent.

The project involves interviewing people who have either been clients,
employees or volunteers of Galop or Stonewall Housing, and examining archive
material to understand the changes in London, as well as the context and
histories of the organisations.

We're looking for oral history interviewers, as well as archive researchers
-
and we can offer you full training as well as covering your out of pocket
expenses such as travel and childcare.

Have a look at the information that follows, and if you're interested in
being involved, give Mark Hutin a ring on 020 7704 6767 to discuss this
further, or email [log in to unmask]

Subject: LGBT Oral History Project at Galop/Stonewall Housing

Dear Prof Squire,

I'm a researcher working for two LGBT charities - Galop, which is London's

lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community safety charity, and

Stonewall Housing, which provides supported housing, advice and advocacy for

the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities in London.  I've

attached volunteer task descriptions for the oral history project I'm doing,

which can be disseminated to anyone you think may be interested.  In the

first instance I'm looking for volunteers who would either be interested in

interviewing, or in being an archive researcher.  On the other side of the

coin, I'm looking for interviewees who may have either been clients of Galop

or Stonewall Housing in the last 25 years, or who have worked for or

volunteered for either organisation.  The volunteer training is organised
for

the end of January.

Many thanks for your help, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Mark.
