Hi folks,

The University of Worcester is pleased to offer a Day Conference on Personal
Development Planning and Employability on Monday January 12th 2009 which
will, through keynotes, showcases and short parallel workshops:

*	Examine the latest research on PDP,
*	Explore the potential of PDP as a means of developing student
employability,
*	Provide an employer's eye view of PDP and employability,
*	Share and discuss the variety of PDP and employability provision
across the University.

The conference is open to all UW and partner college staff and students free
of charge.  It is also open to colleagues working on PDP across UK HE and to
regional employers' organisations and employers for a small fee of £30.

There will be two keynote speakers:

Carl Gilleard, 'An employer's eye view on PDP and employability'
Carl Gilleard is chief executive of the Association of Graduate Recruiters,
which represents over 600 organisations that, between them, offer a high
proportion of graduate opportunities in the UK.  Previously he was Executive
Director for METRA Services Ltd, a national recruitment consultancy and joint
regional director of the West Midlands Employers Organisation. He is
co-author of 'If Only I'd Known' published in 2002 as a resource for young
people to help them maximize the benefits of their higher education
experience. Carl Gilleard is regularly interviewed on national television and
radio and has spoken at conferences in Mexico, United States, Australia,
South Africa, Denmark and Holland on graduate recruitment and development
issues. He is a member of the Burgess Group.
John Peters, 'PDP and Employability: Chicken and Egg?' 
John Peters is Associate Director for Research with the Centre for Recording
Achievement, an associate centre of the Higher Education Academy with a
mission to support the effective implementation of PDP for lifelong learning.
He is Principle Investigator for the National Action Research Network for
researching PDP and ePortfolio practice, a National Teaching Fellowship
Project involving 16 UK HEIs in researching their implementation of PDP and
ePortfolios.  John Peters is a member of the QAA advisory group which is
currently revising national PDP guidelines and is deputy head of academic
development and practice at the University of Worcester.  His keynote will
examine the relationship between PDP and employability and discuss emerging
research findings.
