pardon me barbara but could you explain the question

the kuriles are northeast & takeshima west & the senkakus southwest of metro japan

but the executive summary you link to announces & shows the 7 regions all lie south & southeast of the main islands

so i assume this submission does not treat them but it is puzzling

best

[INT-BOUNDARIES] new continental shelf submissions

Dear colleagues,

Regarding Japan's Submission, does anyone know  in which of 6 regions and how does it treat disputed Kurils, Takeshima and Senkakus? - 12 November 2008 at: http://www.un.org/Depts/los/clcs_new/submissions_files/submission_jpn.htm and Executive Summary at: http://www.un.org/Depts/los/clcs_new/submissions_files/jpn08/jpn_execsummary.pdf via: http://www.un.org/Depts/los/clcs_new/clcs_home.htm via: http://www.un.org/Depts/los/ and 25 November 2008 at: http://www.dur.ac.uk/ibru/news/boundary_news/?itemno=7241&rehref=%2Fibru%2Fnews%2F&resubj=Boundary+news%20Headlines via: http://www.dur.ac.uk/ibru/news/ and Japan's Statement [not referring to its Submission but CLCS generally] in 63rd UNGA Oceans Debate - UN Law of the Sea Convention, 26 Years Later, Still Generating International Cooperation [Draft 63rd UNGA Oceans & Fisheries Resolutions and Statements of States] of 4 December 2008 at: http://www.un.org/News/Press/docs//2008/ga10793.doc.htm via: http://www.un.org/apps/pressreleases/

Dear colleagues,

It is good to know that more States submit their extended continental
shelf to the UN CLCS.
A submission by Japan and another joint submission by Mauritius and
Seychelles are the last two recorded.
http://un.org/Depts/los/clcs_new/clcs_home.htm

Congratulation to the three of them.

regards
Andi
