Please let me explain a bit more - there was not a recommendation of 10 hours from the NAC - it was costed for a full year of support - the subsequent approval from the SLC was for 10 hours... The statement posted by Paddy is, I think useful in clarifying (a bit) the position...from both an Assessment Centre and Support Provider perspective I think it gives us something we can work with... However, there is scope for other questions to be asked - this question was asked by several of us at the meeting and the response below it is the written response given after it had been taken away and consulted upon internally. It is therefore about as 'official' as you are going to get! Here it is: Question: The panel highlighted confusion the amount of additional non-medical helper time which could be recommended and would be approved by SLC. Some were under the impression that NACs could only prescribe an initial ten hours. Answer: SLC: The situation is that ten hours of study skills support will be approved easily with minimum checks. NACs can recommend anything, but recommendations in excess of ten hours will require additional supporting evidence and will be subject to more rigorous checks. This was issued yesterday. cheers Paddy -----Original Message----- From: Discussion list for disabled students and their support staff. The assessment centre say they are acting on what they believe to be SLC policy, until they are notified otherwise. Sorry if I have missed something obvious - but I did place a query earlier about the formal status and notification of the requirements of the SLC - where is the formal documentation and requirement for the changes. Currently the only item I have been pointed to is an FAQ webpage. We appear to be working in the dark. I am finding it very hard to update business plans and formal procedural manuals with no concrete point of reference. With the recommendation based on and supported by the evidence that you are presenting in the review. Similar to as one would for a DSA Needs assessment. Perhaps best not to go too overboard with the recommendation for additional sessions, as further review at a later date, appropriate to the case, perhaps ought to be carried out.
