Dear all

We have had a query from a disabled applicant who is interested in doing a flexible PGCE for which she will receive a small bursary.

She is currently in receipt of Incapacity Benefit, Disability Living Allowance and Income Support, and I assume, Housing Benefit.  She is very keen to complete her PGCE on a part time basis but is wary of losing benefits and the bursary not being able to make up the shortfall.  It is doubtful that the ALF will be sufficient also.  We 

I was wondering if anyone else has had this situation and if there has been anyway of resolving it.  It strikes me that this is a weakness in the system - I am sure there are many other people out there who would benefit from doing their HE courses part time but are prevented due to financial constraints.

We are also looking at internal procedures and perhaps finding a way around it that way but any other ideas gratefully received.
