Dear all,

Do you feel you're still in the early years of your statistical career?
For example, are you studying or researching in the field of statistics or have you recently had a
career change to statistics?
No matter what your age is, if you're a career-young statistician then the RSS Young Statisticians
Section is here to support you!

The Young Statisticians Section (YSS) is the newest section of the Royal Statistical Society. The
YSS committee was formed this summer with a strongly shared vision; to unite all statisticians in
the early stages of their career and to provide a central resource for Continuing Professional
Development and networking. Networking is considered a priority as we wish to bring together a
community of career-young statisticians that support each other both socially and professionally.
The aims of the section are applicable to any career-young statistician, whatever sector or field
they work in and whatever their age. We aim to ease the transition into your statistical career
through the support we offer and the exciting schedule of events that we have been busy organising!

Most importantly, we would like to invite you to the YSS launch event which will take place on
January 30th at the Royal Statistical Society’s headquarters in London. This event will be a
fantastic opportunity to meet other young statisticians and of course professional development will
also be a key focus.  The link below displays a poster for this event;

We are proud to announce an exceptional line-up of speakers for our launch event; Karen Dunnell
(National Statistician, chief executive of the UK Statistics Authority and head of the Government
Statistical Service), Prof. Andy Grieve ( Past President of the RSS), Dr. Trevor Lewis (Chair of
the RSS Professional Development Centre) and Prof. David Hand (RSS President). Of course it wouldn’t
be a launch party without wine and a hot buffet, all of which is included in the ticket price of
£10. Register for tickets on our webpage before 23/01/2009 at

http://www.rss.org.uk/yss.

The launch is set to be a brilliant evening and a great start to the new year for career young
statisticians - we hope to see you there!

Many thanks,

The Young Statisticians Section
