The
Equality bill was formally announced this morning in the Queen’s Speech.
Despite fears that it might be dropped due to the government focusing on the
current economic climate, the bill was included as one of only12 new pieces of
legislation.
Her
Majesty said:
‘My
government is committed to ensuring everyone has a fair chance in life. My
government will bring forward a bill to promote equality, fight discrimination
and introduce transparency in the workplace to help address the difference in
pay between men and women.’
Details of the bill are yet to
be announced. Equality Challenge Unit will update the sector as more
information becomes available.
