Dear Julie

There are no formal restrictions on people who have had contact with
chicken pox being excluded from work unless it is a healthcare facility
or where there is a local policy. There is up to a 95% chance this
employee is immune even if he could not recall having the infection as a
child.

You can seek advice from your local health protection unit rather than
looking in the green book as they can give specific advice about the
circumstances you described.

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] Chicken Pox

Hello All,

can anyone advise me please? One of our employees' daughters has
chicken pox and he has come back to work today. He never had chicken
pox as a child.

His colleagues are concerned that he may pass the virus onto them/their
families, including one whose wife is undergoing treatment for cancer.

As my brain isn't functioning yet, is he ok to be at work?

Regards

Julie
