Dear Julie There are no formal restrictions on people who have had contact with chicken pox being excluded from work unless it is a healthcare facility or where there is a local policy. There is up to a 95% chance this employee is immune even if he could not recall having the infection as a child. You can seek advice from your local health protection unit rather than looking in the green book as they can give specific advice about the circumstances you described.
