Conservation Advice Needed:
A three
storey town-house in Rhayader has recently been transferred into the care of a
trust after more than fifteen years of neglect. The house was left to the
town to be opened as a museum, but legal ownership of the house and contents has
only been attained by the trust in the last week. We are alarmed to see
evidence of live woodworm in some of the objects, fixtures and fittings.
The ambient temperature is 9 degrees and the humidity is up to 80% - perfect
conditions for woodworm, and other pests, to thrive. Advice from
Collections Link is to find specialists in the field of object and building
conservation, or ask a university to survey the building as part of a course for
student conservators. Can anyone help?
