I'm sorry I can't help you much with medieval Welsh hymns but I'm not too bad on medieval Welsh genealogy. I think you're looking for Cydifor or Cedifor ap Daniel, Archdeacon of Cardigan who died in 1163.
His father was Daniel ap Sulien, Archdeacon of Meifod, Powys (d. 1127) and his grandfather was Sulien, twice Bishop of Saint Davids, 1073-1078 and the second time, "against his will" 1080-1085.

Can anyone tell me more about Credifor ap Daniel, archdeacon of Cardigan
from 1215(?) to his death in 1227, alleged to have written the quite beautiful
Latin Ascension hymn "Ave, Scalla"?
Since I know virtually nothing about medieval Welsh hymn writers save that
they were medieval and (likely) Welsh, any information will be of great value.
And, yes, for those of you who know me well, I am tentatively scheduled to
preach on the Feast of the Ascension and need the usual copious amount
of assistance.
