Weeding Library Collections - Problem or Solution?. This is a half day event
organised by the University, College and Research Group (UCRG) Northern
Section of CILIP.

Date and venue: Thursday 4th December 2008, 1.30-4.30pm at the Robinson

Is your library suffering from overcrowded shelves? How do you balance
meeting the needs of your users whilst still having to weed your collections?
Is the UKRR (UK Research Reserve) project of interest to you?

material and may interest libraries wanting to initiate a disposal policy. Jean
Crawford (Project Manager of Phase 1 UKRR Project) will discuss the UKRR
Project (http://www.cocoman.ac.uk/AltProjectdetails.aspx?id=28) as a future
collaborative option for deselected journal material. Sally Curry from the
Research Information Network will give the research library perspective whilst
Hannah Smith from Better World Books will demonstrate how they can provide
a greener option to libraries disposing of withdrawn monograph material. Time
will also be allocated for dicussion of the topics raised.
