Eligibility: A student who participates in the contest will not be charged an entry fee, but must meet the following condition. The student must demonstrate knowledge of Italian at the “Intermediate Level.” The university or its representative must attest to student’s knowledge of the Italian language. The contest will be divided in three categories: A. Short Story: minimum 2000 and maximum 2500 words, double spaced, 12 point font. B. Monologue: minimum 1500 and maximum 2500 words, double spaced, 12 point font. C. One Act Play: five characters, maximum length 15 pages, 25 lines per page, double spaced, 12 point font. Winners and Prizes: Each category will have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Short Story: 1st place winner will receive $500.00 – 2nd place winner will receive $300.00 - 3rd place winner will receive $100.00 dollars. Monologue: 1st place winner will receive $500.00 – 2nd place winner will receive $300.00 - 3rd place winner will receive $100.00 dollars. One Act Play: 1st place winner will receive $500.00 – 2nd place winner will receive $300.00 - 3rd place winner will receive $100.00 dollars. The winners will also receive a plaque and a certificate at the award banquet. Rules: The judges are professors and educators of Italian language and literature. The winners will be announced in March 2009. A 3 x 5 card with author’s name, address, phone, e-mail, name of university, and title of entry and category must accompany each entry. The entry must include a declaration written by the participant stating that judges’ decisions are final. Place all material in a plain white envelope, seal it, and on the outside of the envelope write the title of your entry and its category. Multiple entries can be mailed in one envelope with one registration form. Entries must be mailed to TEATROMANIA postmarked no later than January 25, 2009. Submit FIVE (5) signed copies of each entry. Do not send originals. The winning entries can be placed on the syllabus as part of the course work where the student is enrolled during the 2009-2010 academic year with the agreement that these same entries will be staged by the students using the method Italian Theater Practicum created and taught by Vittorio Capotorto at Columbia University, New York. Schools and Italian Cultural Centers may stage the texts by making an official request to TEATROMANIA. SUPLiCI reserves the right to publish the winning entries in Italian and English in a collection edited by TEATROMANIA to be used by those universities and institutes who wish to stage the works. TEATROMANIA and SUPLiCI reserve the right to change deadlines established in the contest rules with the understanding that participants will be notified of any change.
