How so?

I know of several independent groups that emerged. They were democrat in leaning but were not officially part of the Democratic election machine. Some on several occasions berated Obama for shifting to the centre regarding Universal Health Provision and other issues during his campaign, and they encouraged voter registration. Is that really not something to be encouraged about?

But the disenfranchised voters didn’t actually mobilise and organise themselves.  That’s the point, isn’t it.

I feel optimistic that hundreds of thousands of disenfranchised voters mobilised and organised themselves in a way not seen for quite some time in the US. I worry that the Obama Presidency will be a huge disappointment but the emergence of hundreds of small participatory democracy movements is encouraging.

Also it was really nice to see Ambassador John Bolton on the BBC last night getting so desperate and angry that he suggested a BBC correspondent should be sacked for conducting a biased interview. Does he not know that the BBC doesn't cave in to pressure...

Dear all,

Are any of us feeling hopeful in the light of the USA election result today? What did people think about (I think it was in the acceptance speech) where Barack Obama said “ our  experiences are singular and our destinies universal”?
