Future TV

 

Future TV is a web 2.0 TV Channel, a model stemming from applications such as YouTube, MySpace and mobile media. Young people will be involved in all aspects of running the channel, including taking part in decision making and creative direction. The channel will cover local events and issues, and celebrate London’s cultural and creative activity.

 

The broadcast centre will be based at SPACE in Mare Street.

 

Who is it for?

16 - 25 year olds who are not currently in employment, education or training.

 

What will they get?

Flexible learning opportunities, based around their interests and the variety of roles needed to run a Future TV Channel.

Hard skills can be chosen from a menu including: music technology, production, mobile broadcast, administration, marketing, programming, online camerawork/broadcast and edit skills, creative direction, art direction.

Soft skills will include confidence development, motivation and interpersonal skills. These skills will be taught by Future TV production staff and industrial specialists, coming from, for example, Advertising, Filmmaking, Music Publishing, New Technology Agencies

 

Young people will receive 1:1 support and advice and guidance from the attached youth worker, programme staff and youth mentors. They will also receive supported sign posting into further training, employment and engagement with mainstream support organisations. 

 

Learning programme

  • 12 hr/week structured learning package over 6 weeks, including training from industrial specialists, supported learning from the Production Staff and Youth Mentors and IAG’s.
  • Tailor made and supported work experience opportunities, working on the channel.
  • Support into further training and employment, including employment opportunities on the channel, as youth mentors, and production staff.

 

Accreditation

Young people will get the opportunity to enter for Arts Award Bronze (Level 1) qualifications. SPACE is an accredited Arts Award Centre.

 

Support costs

Transport will be paid, food will be provided and child care costs met.
