I don't entirely understand the scaling that takes place during
first-level model estimation.

I have extracted beta values from the con images for a particular task
against rest, and some subjects have extremely high values (11, compared
to ~.45 for others) for certain contrasts. I've never had such a huge
range before--is this normal?
