Dont be so innocent of how the real world works - I am struggling to engage and gain trust for employees that have been here since Adam and Eve and feel that a 'nurse' should be here for any illness / injury / sympathy etc etc 24 hours aday !
I am winning in my re-education of the workforce - they now accept First aid treatment from a first aider MOST of the time ! but I still have to tell people when they come to me for paracetamol that they must buy their own - Its a fine balancing act
I had the temerity to have a working day off the other week and had a manager make a complaint to the MD that I was not here when someone in his team was ill! No one backed me up except HR - I had to defend myself vigorously the next day - you couldn't make this stuff up - you have to smile with a shrug or you'd go MAD!  And its not the only company thats like it - although there are less and less now !
I had a young guy come in the other day and ask if I had some cream for his girlfriends' little girl who had a rash! One of the older employees told him thats where he should go for advice and cream! Yes I have also been asked for calamine although never kisses
OH is nothing but a challenge!!!!!!!!
By the way I have a directive signed off by a local GP (he used to provide the OH service here - and they still ask to see the doctor when they come over) and have been working since to educate the employees since and yes it is getting less and less.

Kind regards
Gail

I can't believe you're having to give out paracetamol and ibuprofen. Surely the employees can buy these for themselves - they're less than 50p per pack at Sainsbury.  I wouldn't worry about going through any hoops when your employees can take responsibility for themselves.  Next they'll be wanting you to apply calamine lotion or kiss their bruises better.

[OCC-HEALTH] Administration of medicines

Good morning list

I have previously worked for many years in the NHS where the administration of medicines was governed by Patient Group Directions. I have recently moved to a food manufacturing plant where it appears to be the norm to administer medications like Paracetamol and Ibuprofen.

I would appreciate any advise as to whether this is an acceptable practice and what is required as regards the nursing team being covered to do this.

Many thanks

Marj
