AAM urges research into provenance of collections
Maurice Davies, the MA's deputy director, has welcomed the AAM's new standards on collecting of archaeological material, which urge US museums to research objects where provenance is incomplete or uncertain. Item 3 of the American Association of Museums' standards states: "In order to advance further research, public trust, and accountability, museums should make available the known ownership history of archaeological material and ancient art in their collections, and make serious efforts to allocate time and funding to conduct research on objects where provenance is incomplete or uncertain." Davies, who was the chair of the working group that, in 2005, produced the DCMS guidelines on collecting and borrowing cultural material, said: "We welcome the AAM's work and their clear guidance on this issue.

‘Museumland' road plan approved
A plan to give the streets around some of London's most famous museums more of a 'village' feel has taken its first key step forward. Kensington and Chelsea Council has approved dismantling a one-way system around Exhibition Road. This is the first step towards having cars and pedestrians "share" the road. The busy area around west London's South Kensington Tube is home to the Victoria and Albert, Science and Natural History museums.
