medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture One might look at Voragine's The Golden Legend; compiled in the mid 13th c, it is a collection of saints lives from many previous centuries. It's prob. not easy to determine when any one life is originally written from that text; but you could find confessor saints that interest you there and then dig away at finding the original vitae. jbw John B. In the case of interest to you, you would find, for example, in model sermons intended to be preached on the feast of confessors, the qualities that makes a saintly confessor, um, saintly and a confessor! By looking at model sermons, you get an idea of approaches to confessor saints that the writer believed to be characteristic. The sermons are, compared to most vitae, shorter and definitely much more to the point of your interest. Can anyone suggest good primary sources or secondary sources sources that discuss this category of saints? I am especially interested in late 12th and early 13th cen sources.
