medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture There is a translation of the Beatrice story in Johannes Herolt's mid-fifteenth-century "Miracles of the Blessed Virgin Mary" (C.C. Swinton Bland's translation; London, 1928), which I see has been reprinted by Kessinger Press in 2004. Herolt uses the version from Caesarius of Heisterbach's "Dialogue on Miracles," which is also available in a translation by Bland (1929). I included the story in my "Medieval Popular Religion" (1st ed: p. 135; 2nd ed: p 145), which might be easier to find than the original books. Or if you like, I can send you a typescript of it--it's just 3 paragraphs. The first is the story of the Nun Beatrice, who abandons the monastery for her lover, and later becomes a prostitute after her lover leaves her. I have seen the Dutch version and the Dutch manuscript, but not a modern translation of the story. The second is what I believe to be the Digby play of Mary Magdalene. I have yet to find a modern English version.
