Dear Sophie

I don’t think there is a single main journal identifiable for mental health; in fact I think the idea of establishing ‘one main journal per disease area’ is pretty unrealistic. ‘Mental health’ is a huge field and covers adults, older people, children and young people, substance misuse, and learning disabilities. For psychiatry alone the RCPsych’s document Key resources for psychiatric libraries lists 27 core titles. In addition you have the interdisciplinary, clinical psychology, nursing and PAMs titles.

Catherine

Subject: Main UK journals for different disease areas

Dear all

We are trying to compile a list of the main UK journals for the following disease areas (1 main journal per area):

• Blood and immune system

• Cancer

• Cardiovascular

• Central nervous system

• Diagnostic procedures

• Digestive system

• Ear and nose

• Endocrine, nutritional and metabolic

• Eye

• Gynaecology, pregnancy and birth

• Infectious diseases

• Injuries, accidents and wounds

• Mental health and behavioural conditions

• Mouth and dental

• Musculoskeletal

• Public health

• Respiratory

• Skin

• Surgical procedures

• Therapeutic procedures

• Urogenital

Has anyone done any similar work that they are able to share with us? Or is anyone able to offer any advice re impact factors for journals in these areas (we don't have access to Journal Citation Reports).

Thank you very much

Sophie
