I have received a comment/suggestion from a student user asking that we do more to keep our open access PC keyboards and mice cleaner, including providing hand sanitising dispensers such as those seen widely in hospital wards etc.

I would be interested to find out if anyone else responsible for 'multi-use' PC facilities does anything specific to keep keyboards clean and germ free or if anyone can recommend any anti bacterial spray that can be easily applied and doesn't require wiping on and off.
We do try to give keyboards a thorough clean during vacations but cannot afford staff time to do it as an on-going activity through the year. We also do all we can to dissuade students from eating and drinking near computers for reasons of cleanliness but.....
There were reports in the press earlier in the year about research showing that computer keyboards - especially when used by many people in offices etc carry many more germs than loo seats (http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2008/may/01/computing.health) so I guess we should take these concerns seriously.
Many thanks.
