CILIP in Scotland is pleased to announce that Central Branch is holding a ‘Get to know’ graphic novels event on Thurs 20 Nov in the Dunblane Centre. Mark Millar is one of the world’s top selling comic books creators best known for his work on Spiderman and X-men. He has become the ‘toast of Hollywood’ with producers clamouring for the movie rights to his creations following the release of “Wanted” starring James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie. Dr Mel Gibson is a UK based comics scholar, consultant and trainer. Mel runs training events on manga, working with young adults in libraries, working with picture books and the links between children’s books and the internet. She has also worked extensively with television and radio, promoting and enthusing about comics, graphic novels and manga . Classical Comics, Metromedia UK, Red Hot Comics (Planet Ace Ltd) and Forbidden Planet will also be present to discuss their publications.
