Are you sure about that Val? Just think of all that fun you'll be missing out on.... I think this is a good idea, though, as I would be interested to see how other people have done this. I 'll see about putting ours on as well (though they're still only drafts at the moment) best wishes Nick Boldrini Historic Environment Record Officer Heritage and Environment Section Development and Countryside Service Business and Environmental Services Directorate North Yorkshire County Council County Hall Northallerton DL7 8AH Direct Dial (01609) 532331 Conserving North Yorkshire's heritage - encouraging sustainable access www.northyorks.gov.uk/her This email is personal. Instead of us all doing a broadly similar task, is there any mileage in those of you who are advanced with it making it more widely available and then we can just adapt them to our own situations? Look forward to hearing your thoughts Cheers Val Val Turner Shetland Archaeologist -----Original Message----- From: Issues related to Historic Environment Records [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Nick Boldrini Sent: 28 October 2008 09:12 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: Monument relationships Hi Alice SNAP! I am writing manuals too, great isnt it? I have done our relationship one, and we have basically decided not to record any. I have to be honest and say I remain unconvinced as to the use of recording relationships, as most of them appear to duplicate other data, but that may just be how we work/how I have understood things. Historically our records were linked hierarchically (ie parent child) but we are going to remove these as part of general cleaning of data (as it was just a geographical thing which is now available from the GIS) Chronological linking - can't you just get this by querying on period? Am I missing something here? Like I say we are not planning to record any, but would be interested to see what you come up with to see if you have thought of things I haven't. best wishes Nick Boldrini Historic Environment Record Officer WARNING This E-mail and any attachments may contain information that is confidential or privileged, and is intended solely for the use of the named recipient.
