AAG 2009 paper session on Critical Geographies of Children and Youth - seeking abstracts. Please share with interested parties.

Title: Session on Critical Geographies of Children and Youth

Description:

Geographies of children and youth address the spatial and social impact of changing conditions - social, environmental, political and economic - and attitudes towards youth and childhood at the local and global levels. This paper session draws from critical youth studies and broadly focuses on both the geography of youth and how youth shape their own geographies. Key themes could include:

  • discourse on  youth's actualization of agency;

  • mobilization of right-claims which shape the geographies of their everyday lives;

  • actions for social and environmental justice;

  • the praxis of the trivalent conceptualization of distribution, recognition, and participation;

  • ethical considerations on the polyvocal and plural nature of the critical geographies of children and youth;

  • affective and moral geographies;

  • flexible identities and social entrepreneurialism among children and youth.

Research that addresses methodological issues of ethics and praxis or that incorporates critical social theory are particularly encouraged. Please send abstracts to Julie Poncelet –  [log in to unmask] by October 15, 2008.
