AfELG Training Event 
Learning Inside and Outside the Classroom - an archive perspective 

Monday 3 November 2008 
9.30am-4pm Birmingham Central Library 

The aim of this day is to explore different approaches to providing teaching 
through the use of archives. By looking at learning both inside and outside the 
classroom it is hoped the day will provide some inspiration to ensure that 
archives can exploit their resources in a way that is both valuable and exciting 
for school pupils. 

Speakers at the event will be: 

Jenny Bone 
Cultural Entitlement Officer, MLA West Midlands 
At The Heart of it – using local collections to inspire global learning 
A TIDE~ toolkit for creative approaches to collections to engage with the new 
secondary curriculum. The toolkit can be used for projects both inside and 
outside the classroom.

Guy Woolnough 
Former Head of History at Carnforth High School 
A teacher’s perspective on using archives inside and outside the classroom 

Gabrielle Bourn

Costs are £40 for SoA members and £50 for non members (including lunch and
