MLA North West are offering a free half day training course on Reminiscence, Oral History and Intergenerational learning, to support museum and archives staff involved in the current phase of the Their Past Your Future programme. http://www.mla.gov.uk/programmes/their_past_your_future We would like to broaden this out to allow more museum, library and archive staff, who would like support in this area, to attend and so have a limited number of further free places available. The session will be held on Wed 12 Nov from 12 noon to 4.30pm at a central Manchester venue tbc. (Light lunch and pre course networking from 12 noon, with course running from 1.00 to 4.30pm) The session will consist of a mixture of practical activities and group discussion which will give participants the opportunity to try out ideas and techniques; to share their own experiences of doing reminiscence and intergenerational work; and to discuss the issues that might arise in this kind of project, and how they would respond to them. By the end of the session, participants will * have a grasp of what oral history and reminiscence are, and how they might fit in to what they want to achieve * have a toolkit of some effective ideas and techniques they can use in projects * be aware of the issues that might arise in this kind of project, know about some of the different perspectives that oral historians and reminiscence workers hold on these issues, and have had an opportunity to think and discuss where they stand on them.
