This is a new, full time post in the UKCRC registered Pragmatic Clinical 
Trials Unit located in the Centre for Health Sciences and also linked 
with the Centre for Psychiatry. The Unit leads and supports clinical 
trials in which the primary question of interest relates to intervention 
effectiveness: whether an intervention works under real life conditions. 
It also leads and supports pilot studies for these trials methodological 
research relevant to the unit. The Centre for Health Sciences is based 
on the Whitechapel site of Queen Mary’s School of Medicine and 
Dentistry, University of London, at the heart of London’s east end. 
Researchers are a multidisciplinary team from a wide range of 
backgrounds including general practice, medical ethics, nursing, 
statistics, public health, sociology, and psychology.

This purpose of this post is to contribute to the Pragmatic Clinical 
Trials Unit’s ability to lead, support and encourage high quality 
pragmatic trials and pilot studies where they fit with the research 
strategies of the two Centres with which the Unit is linked, or with the 
methodological interests of the Unit. The post will involve contributing 
to trial protocols, trial steering committees, developing statistical 
analysis plans, conducting statistical analyses, liaising with other 
researchers and health professionals both within and outside the Centres 
for Health Sciences and Psychiatry, and contributing to a small amount 
of teaching. There is also the possibility of developing some 
methodological work if appropriate.

You will possess a higher degree in statistics or equivalent, have some 
experience of medical research and a good knowledge of clinical trial 
design and analysis. You will need to be able to write reports and 
papers, and to work to required deadlines. You will also be a strong and 
enthusiastic communicator about the value of sound statistical 
approaches. Flexibility in work undertaken and the ability to work 
unsupervised or as part of a team are essential.

This is a three year fixed term contract post. The salary is within 
Research Grade 5 – £33,492 to £39,430, dependent on experience. The 
appointment is full-time and the post is based in Whitechapel. Enquiries
