Hi Sarah
We don’t yet have a SES but are starting to work towards
one. We have the 3 schemes in place that we legally have to and have just
pulled the three Action Plans together into a single action plan.
Our other 3 schemes are in draft and have been written using
the same format so that we can (hopefully) bring the 6 schemes into a single
one. However, I noted from the meeting that people were talking about 7
strands – do you know which is the 7th one?
We consulted on Disability, Gender and Race – we used a
combination of specialist groups, going out to the community, interviewing
students in the University and our equality groups. In addition, for our
religion and belief scheme we have been out to local faith groups in the
community.
We are aiming to set up a staff and a student consultation
group which will cover all the strands for our Impact Assessments and for
consulting on our single scheme. These groups will meet at least once a term.
I hope this is helpful – if we can be of any further help or
be involved in the SES project please let me know.

Subject: Single Equality Schemes
Dear
Colleagues,
At
ECU we are in the process of gathering some of the good practice on Single
Equality Schemes (SES) for a possible project in 2009. To assist us with this
initial mapping phase I would be very grateful if you could respond briefly to
the following questions off list - if you have a SES - by this Friday.
·
What are the main lessons learned
from the process?
·
What approach have you taken to
incorporating age, sexual orientation and religion and belief?
·
Which groups did you consult with
and how did you consult e.g. open meetings, surveys, networks etc?
·
What was the timeframe for
consultation?
·
How are you going to ensure
ongoing involvement of these groups?
Apologies for the short time frame, but a paragraph on
each point would be enough at this stage.
Many thanks in advance.
Sarah
