Inspired by the garbage crisis in Naples and the resulting international scandal, over fifty emerging artists sent their contribution for the first and second edition of this touring exhibition that received considerable attention in the media (follow this link to watch the news on Italian national TV channel RAI 3: http://it.youtube.com/user/Campilongo1). Under the direction of SharpCut Visual Arts Project the show now opens in London with a rich programme of music and theatre events. Please find a detailed programme of events at the bottom this press release. THE ART CYCLE Introduction by Francesco Giulio Farachi This exhibition gradually finds its own balance – bit of a paradox here – through a dynamic equilibrium which adapts itself to places and conditions. Movement and metamorphosis are what underlies its vitality as it unfolds out of the rigid apparatus of schemata and programmes and finds its incarnation as living matter - a vitality which strives to bring together emotion and sensibility and to share life and surroundings, contexts and moments. This is why this exhibition can move about and find a harbour in different contexts, where it adapts itself to them - and in so doing transforms them. A foundry rescued from dereliction and ruin in the heart of Rome; a decommissioned church surviving amidst the medieval enchantment of the old town of Capranica (province of Viterbo); and today the refurbished space of an art gallery surrounded by London's urban texture, all become symbols, individually and as a whole, of an art of reutilization and for reutilization. Different locations are bearers of different aspects and meanings, setups and atmospheres put themselves on stage alongside the artworks and the artists; the topic of recycling finds its modulation in the timbre and tones unique to the surroundings, and thus becomes, in turn, winking, solemn, serious, ironic, diffusive and personal, ambitious or desperate – but always drawing you in. This then becomes a way for closing the circle of “smArt Recycling” or of leaving it permanently open, for that matter – a way for saying and of doing Art which contaminates, which reaches out and touches matter, sensibilities, ideas – and changes them, turns them into the grounds of free creativity and of creative freedom.
