Dear colleagues,

the Department of Human Geography at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt (Germany) currently establishes a new research group on transport and mobility. The research group is sponsored by the regional public transport authorities and aims at national and international outreach. Along with a newly appointed professorship, positions for two full-time phd or post doctoral researchers are available, starting preferably by November 1, 2008. Part-time employment is possible. Salary will be at BAT IIa level on the German public services pay scale.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute by his or her research to the development of the research group. The research should focus on the topic of transport in metropolitan areas. Research areas may include but are not limited to
- the longitudinal analysis of travel behaviour changes,
- the assessment of transport innovations for achieving a more sustainable transport system or
- the analysis of land use dynamics and their interaction with travel.

Suggestions for research projects in other areas of transport and mobility in metropolitan areas are possible as well.

The successful candidate is expected to publish research results in international peer-reviewed journals and to join efforts for attracting third-party funding. Additionally, the candidate will have to teach courses for geography students.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, ambitious and highly qualified person with a university degree in geography, social sciences, planning, transport studies or related areas. Depending on the level of the scientific qualification some previous research or work related with transport research should exist. For the position a thorough understanding of empirical research methods, for qualitative and/or quantitative research methods, is important. Experiences with research projects and the acquisition of third party money are an advantage. Some basic knowledge or the willingness to learn the German language will be required, too.

Please send your application (with a letter detailing your motivation for this application, the research topic(s) you are most interested in, CV, list of publications and presentation if applicable and the names of two potential referees) until October 7, 2008, by email to the Department of Human Geography, J.W.
