he Sidney Society will sponsor two open sessions on Philip Sidney and his Circle at the 44th International Congress on Medieval Studies at Western Michigan University (Kalamazoo, Michigan), May 7-10 2009. The conference website is here: http://www.wmich.edu/medieval/congress/ <http://www.wmich.edu/medieval/congress/> . Abstracts are invited on any subject dealing with Philip Sidney and his circle. As ever, we encourage proposals from newcomers as well as established scholars. For our third session this year, Margaret Hannay will be giving the Jan van Dorsten lecture, entitled 'Mary, Widow: Wroth after Urania': we will in particular welcome abstracts relating to the other Sidneys who have benefitted from her scholarly attentions - the Countess of Pembroke and Robert Sidney. Papers should be limited to twenty minutes in reading time. Please do not submit an abstract to two different sessions of the conference in the same year. Abstracts (500 words) should be submitted electronically and should indicate clearly your mailing address and phone number. If you need special equipment for the talk (digital projector, etc.), let us know when you submit your abstract, rather than later, please. Deadline for abstracts: September 15, 2008. Please send your abstracts (email preferably) to: Helen Vincent Senior Curator Rare Book Collections National Library of Scotland George IV Bridge Edinburgh EH1 1EW Scotland Tel: +44 (0) 131 623 3894 Fax: +44 (0) 131 623 3888 Email: [log in to unmask] Organizing Committee for Sidney at Kalamazoo: Margaret Hannay, Siena College Arthur Kinney, University of Massachusetts Roger Kuin, York University Mary Ellen Lamb, Southern Illinois University Robert Stillman, University of Tennessee, Knoxville Helen Vincent, National Library of Scotland Helen Vincent Senior Curator Rare Book Collections Tel: +44 (0) 131 623 3894 Fax: +44 (0) 131 623 3888 Email: [log in to unmask] National Library of Scotland George IV Bridge Edinburgh EH1 1EW Scotland *********************************************************************** Visit the National Library of Scotland online at www.nls.uk CELEBRATING 500 YEARS OF SCOTTISH PRINTING 1508-2008 http://www.500yearsofprinting.org *********************************************************************** Please consider the environment before printing this e-mail.
