this requires specialist opinion I would think to clarify all
issues. I would think litigation or at least a fairly complicated situation
likely. If it is the case that the feed may be responsible HSE would
be very interested. As an OHA I would want considerable professional backup with
dealing with a case like this and wouldnt make any judgement or offer any
opinion without it. Would definately escalate for consultant occupational
physician opinion
I saw a lady yesterday who had a fallopian tube
adenocarcinoma removed in July. She is adamant that 'it is due to the poultry
feed she is in contact with, as it contains GM products, a work colleague had 3
cancerous lumps removed last year during her hysterectomy {she had been seen by
OH and had fibroids removed} and a previous staff member died from throat
cancer'. She feels that she may be the first case so I'm unlikely to find
evidence linking poultry food to cancer and understandably wants reassurance
that it isn't before she will consider going back to work.
I'm in
contact with both the manager and H&S to look at the feed contents
etc.
Do any of you work with in the poultry livestock industry who
can help?
