I have the most enormous admiration for Sir Tim Berners-Lee - after all, I remember vividly the time before his wonderful Web. However, if he'd use it to 'decide who [he'd] trust to vote' then we're all doomed....unless, of course, he's thinking of the Darwin Awards....

Subject: [LIS-MEDICAL] Interesting story on the BBC site

Hi All

Interesting story on the Beeb that could be of interest to the library world.

Surely, it's openings such as this that can further promote the benefits of information literacy skills!!!!

"There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow - between science and superstition. And it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call The Twilight Zone".

Apply to become a member of your local Hospital !

Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust is applying to become a Foundation Trust and we want to recruit 4,000 members (who can be either patients or members of the public) from the local community to have a say in how the Trust is run and help shape the future of the hospital for the next 20 years. Members can:

* Help influence decisions about future plans for the development of the Trust.
* Support the work of the Trust and receive regular newsletters.
* Stand for election to the Council of Governors and work with the Trust Board to ensure that the Trust delivers services that reflect the needs of the local community.

If you feel you don't have the time to get too involved then that is fine - we can just send you information about our services so that you can keep up to date with our plans. We are reassuring all of our members that the level of commitment required as a member is entirely up to them and there are absolutely no fees or subscriptions.

Applying is very easy and will only take a couple of minutes. You can apply for membership online at: http://www.meht.nhs.uk/foundation-trust/apply-online/. Alternatively, you can request a membership application form by e-mailing [log in to unmask], by calling: 01245 514508 (during office hours) or by writing to Foundation Trust Office, Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, CM1 7ET.
