Data Security

Lee

Our security policy stipulates that reference to your 2 questions:

1.  no personal data to be stored on a local drive (e.g. laptop) - unless of course the laptop itself is encrypted.  However, personal data can be stored on USB pens but only if the pens have been purchased via our ICT dept as these are encrypted.

2.  we are currently using 7zip encryption (with the key sent separately to the information)  to send personal/sensitive information via email with a view to moving to a corporate email encryption facility i.e. GCSX.

hope this helps
Many thanks

Subject: Data Security

Can I ask the following please in relation to the high profile breaches of data protection/information security.

1.Has any organisation banned the storing of personal data on portable devices such as laptops and memory (USB) sticks or is this allowed if documents are password protected?

2. Due to the risks of external emails being intercepted whilst in transit what measures/controls have organisations put in place regarding the emailing of personal data outside of the organisation?

Regards
