Apologies for cross-posting Dear Scottish Evaluation Network
colleagues, Here is some information on a piece of research which we’ve recently
published regarding the impacts of museums on their local communities. In 2007,
Museums Galleries Scotland commissioned a piece of social research to look at
the impacts made by museums and galleries on their local communities. The
research was carried out by the Moffat Centre for Travel and Tourism Business
Development. The report contains the results of an extensive literature review
and fieldwork. The case studies presented in the report represent a variety of
key community impact themes: - re-development: extending life cycle - employment
and work experience - community volunteering - community regeneration -
community engagement. This research is a first step in exploring the impacts
that museums have on communities and recommends areas for further research. To
view the report, please click on the following link:

currently working on our response to the report. Please feel free to circulate
this information to anybody else who you think may be interested. If you have
any further questions, please contact us. Kind regards, Heather Doherty Research
