SENSORY THEATRE: THREEWAYS SEN SCHOOL PROJECT
An immersive learning environment for disabled children

WHO: MARTYN WARE, Illustrious Company
WHAT: London Knowledge Lab Seminar Series
WHEN: Tuesday, September 30th, 5pm
WHERE: London Knowledge Lab, 23-29 Emerald Street, London WC1N 3QS

Immersive sensory environments are spaces that are embedded with cutting
edge technology to promote multisensory interaction. Martyn Ware of the
Illustrious Company will be discussing one of his latest projects - the
Threeways SEN School project.

Martyn, the founder member of both The Human League and Heaven 17, is
one of
the leading figures in electronic music. As record producer and
artist has
featured on recordings totalling over 50 million sales worldwide
during a 27
year career to date, working with Tina Turner, Terence Trent D'Arby,
Chaka
Khan, Erasure, Marc Almond and Mavis Staples.

Martyn has been working in collaboration with Jason Bruges Studio for
more
than 3 years to create a world-first, totally innovative facility to
enhance
the learning and experiential environment for a wide range of
disabilities.
Using the latest in sensor technologies, their facility will enable
relatively small interactions with pupils to create meaningful
control for a
variety of sensory outputs (200 degree immersive projection,
three-dimensional sound and detailed responsive led lighting arrays).
This
has involved the design of bespoke software enabling the digital
patching of
any sensors to control any or all of the sensory components (projection,
lighting and sound). The facility is now 80% functional and will be
officially launched and fully functional early in the new year.

Whilst they have already created a series of 'templates' for teachers to
pour content into, in addition they are currently embarking on a
concerted
effort to invite interested parties and creatives to the school to
engage in
developing future ideas and experiences.
