WC1B 3DG Cost: Free Dear Colleague London Museums Group is pleased to invite you to this skills sharing event focussing on connecting museums' collections and exhibitions to your local community. The event is funded by Renaissance London through London Museums Hub and the Museum Development fund managed by MLA London and therefore attendance is free. Invites to this event have recently been extended to include London's archives. This event also incorporates the Annual General meeting for LMG. The collections part of event will begin with a presentation from Liz Braby, Audience Development Officer at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Her presentation will look at both the opportunities and practical challenges that museums face in engaging with diverse local communities to collect objects and oral testimonies that reflect their lives. The presentation will explore wider policies, social and cultural agendas, as well as practical museum working. It will make particular reference to 'Ask the Audience', a three year audience development project at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. The event will include case studies from the London Museums Hub's Reassessing What We Collect project and The Heritage Lottery Fund's Collecting Cultures programme. There will also be an opportunity for delegates to attend a workshop (please state your preference when booking).
