The Graduate School 'Human Development in Landscapes' which has been 
established as part of the DFG Excellence-Initiative at the 
Christian-Albrechts-University in Kiel, Germany, invites applications 
for a two plus one year *PhD fellowship* for the following project:

*Habitat Harz: The Environmental History of a Mountain Area and its 
Foothills**
*
The project will focus on palaeobotanical study (*pollen analysis, 
archaeobotany, anthracology*) of the environmental history of the Harz 
mountains area, Germany. Aims of the project include reconstruction of 
the landscape history of the Harz mountain area in (pre-) medieval und 
modern times with focus on the impact of mining, ore dressing and metal 
production on the development of the present landscape. For more details
