"Thank you for the repeat.

Consistent with impaired glucose tolerance. Suggest advise patient re: weight loss, if appropriate, then suggest repeat test again in another 6-12 mnths"

Many thanks for your prompt replies:

Further information: A comment was sent out as GTT c/w diabetes mellitus if symptomatic. As patient was asymptomatic the GP decided to repeat GTT and the results were:

Fasting glucose 6.1 mmol/L; 2h post-glucose 8.2 mmol/L; and HbA1c 6.1%.

Now, is the patient diabetic or not? or shall we go for a third GGT?

Below are the nine comments from colleagues in order of receiving them:

1. 30 - 40% of diabetic have either normal or impaired fasting glucose

2. I would add C/W DM.

3. "The 2 hour post glucose load confirms the diagnosis of Diabetes mellitus, IF symptoms present. If symptoms not present please repeat the OGTT on another day.
WHO criteria fasting glucose > or = 7.0 mmol/L, and/or 2-hour post glucose > or = 11.1 mmol/L."

4. This is DM

WHO says 2 hr post load glucose takes precedence.

5. 2 hour glucose result suggests diabetes mellitus

6. GTT consistent with diabetes

7. GTD

8. Diabetic results

9. 2hr post load >11 = diabetic, doesn't it?

Best wishes

Mohammad

Subject: GTT interpretation

The following GTT results belongs to a 45-year-old man, clinical details ? diabetic:

Fasting glucose  6.2 mmol/L
2 h post 75 g glucose load   12.0 mmol/L

There are 3 previous fasting glucose results, all within the impaired fasting glucose range.
What will be your interpretative comment for his GP?

thanks

Mohammad
