I'd follow up on what everyone else is saying with a few thoughts:

* The Necronomicon Files aren't entirely academic, but it has
its moments, and it'll be a good summary of what's out there.

* I'd add the Simon Necronomicon to the mix as a topic for
examination.

* As for Grant - for an undergrad paper, I'd recommend The
Magical Revival. Going beyond that is probably unnecessary.

* One recent phenomenon has been the "mainstreaming" of such
material. I'd point to Tyson's Necronomicon books and Tarot deck, plus
Konstantinos' NOCTURNICON, for evidence of that tendency.

* Don't give up on interlibrary loan. Liber Koth doesn't appear
to be in WorldCat library holdings, but many of these other books should
be available from public libraries.

Subject: [ACADEMIC-STUDY-MAGIC] Lovecraft & NRMs

Hi everyone,

An undergraduate student of mine would like to write a paper on the use
of material from H.P. Lovecraft in NRMs, especially among Pagans,
theistic and non-theistic Satanists, and chaos magicians. (I realize
the latter do not necessarily consider themselves to be practicing a
religion.)

Can anyone suggest some preliminary academic sources for him to consult?
I admit this is a bit beyond my bailiwick.

Thanks,

Sabina
