I'd follow up on what everyone else is saying with a few thoughts: * The Necronomicon Files aren't entirely academic, but it has its moments, and it'll be a good summary of what's out there. * I'd add the Simon Necronomicon to the mix as a topic for examination. * As for Grant - for an undergrad paper, I'd recommend The Magical Revival. Going beyond that is probably unnecessary. * One recent phenomenon has been the "mainstreaming" of such material. I'd point to Tyson's Necronomicon books and Tarot deck, plus Konstantinos' NOCTURNICON, for evidence of that tendency. * Don't give up on interlibrary loan. Liber Koth doesn't appear to be in WorldCat library holdings, but many of these other books should be available from public libraries. Lovecraft in NRMs, especially among Pagans, theistic and non-theistic Satanists, and chaos magicians. (I realize the latter do not necessarily consider themselves to be practicing a religion.) Can anyone suggest some preliminary academic sources for him to consult? I admit this is a bit beyond my bailiwick.
