Dear Karin, Yes, it certainly appears to be a shrew. The common shrew (Sorex araneus) and water shrew (Neomys fodiens) are not native to Ireland but the pigmy shrew (Sorex minutus) is. From the very small size of the mandible it most probably belongs to that species. Ian L. Baxter
