This may be a second edition of the document, but it is not as up to date as
it might be. When you look at this document, ignore the bit on page 141
about "student journalism bursaries for science communication courses". This
is one bit that they did not update. These bursaries sadly lapsed a few
years ago when the Wellcome Trust declined to continue funding them.

Subject: Guide to Science Journalism Training - 2008 edition

I am very pleased to enclose a copy of the second edition of the European
Guide to Science Journalism Training, issued by the European Commission's
Directorate General for Research. The Guide is designed to encourage those
who wish to specialise in communicating science by increasing awareness of
the wealth of training opportunities available.

The Guide contains an inventory of the training courses in science
journalism across the 27 Member States of the European Union, as well as
exchange programmes, scholarships and other initiatives supporting science
journalism. The information contained therein has been updated during the
past month, following the first publication of the Guide in December 2007
during the first European Forum on Science Journalism.

We would like to invite you to include this Guide on your web-site or
newsletter and to disseminate it among your colleagues and interested
parties. The link to the Guide is available on the Europa web-site:
http://ec.europa.eu/research/conferences/2007/bcn2007/guide_to_science_journ
alism_en.pdf

You are also welcome to order printed copies by sending an e-mail to
[log in to unmask] before 10th September, specifying your postal
address and the number of copies required.

We trust that the Guide will improve the culture of science communication
and increase the place of science in the media in Europe.

Your cooperation in helping this information reach those interested would be
extremely valuable.

I am looking forward to receiving your feedback or comments. Should you have
any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.

Your sincerely,

Andrea Gereöffy
