Senior Sonnet

I've got to write this down before I forget.
I had a thought once, but I don't remember
what that thought was about, or even if I
thought it. Memory's like that nowadays

and maybe always was. Still, I remember
remembering, as though it was yesterday.
At least I think I remember it. No thought
nowadays can be trusted. My wife--uh,

I think it was my wife, if I remember
rightly--thought far too much, as I recol-
lect, of her power of memory (and mine).
But all of this is not at all what I meant to

write down today. I'll have to go ask my
wife. Her name's right on my tongue tip.
