Yes Jacqui, I know what you mean, i.e:

Sed cum proclamantibus naumachiariis: ‘Ave imperator, morituri te salutant!’ (I think)

I too had a Latin teacher who, I am convinced was a guard in a labour camp, a female (!) one at that.!

Oh happy days.

Anyway, thank you all for your help, I think I now have an idea of this person's medical problem.

Cheers

Jay

Ave Caesar, morituri te salutamus"
This form of the "salute" is of course inaccurate. The "salute" is taken from Suetonius’ "De vita Caesarum" XXI, 6: "Sed cum proclamantibus naumachiariis: ‘Ave imperator, morituri te salutant!’ respondisset: ‘Aut non’"

        hi
previously the polish physicians i have had corresponsdance from have used ICD took me while to know what they were doing and eventually i thought nothing of a note saying he is being treated for a 19 and i could look up what it was.,
I would think this (in my 1980's latin class) was chest fisulas from skin....
...oh the joys of catholic school...and what i now know to be a latin teacher with a diagnosable mental health condition which in this day and age would preclude him from teaching!!

          Naevi are pigmented lesions
cum fistula = with a fistula, which is a narrow duct or passage
Tegm = I have no idea, could this be a mis-spelling?
          thoracis = of the thorax

Unless you can re-interpret Tegm, it could be anything from zits on his chest wall that have been draining onto the skin to melanoma deposits or anything in-between!

Sorry not to have been more helpful

            To all my erudite colleagues

            I need help!

I have a client who is ill in his native Poland. His medical certificate has arrived duly translated but, the diagnosis is in Latin as far as I can see. It is some years since I did that venerable subject and I am well aware that its reference to medical subjects is far from straightforward. However, I do need to know what my client is suffering from. Is there anyone out there who can translate the following for me please? My efforts do not make sense!

                            'Naevi cum fistula tegm thoracis'

I hate seeming to be ignorant but I really cannot untangle this.

            Regards
