Dear Vera,

That's what I had suspected.  It's not an idiom.  What it is is an elaboration of a common phrase: "aliquem per caputium trahere/capere".  If you Google the simple phrase "per caputium" you'll find several examples.

In this case, there are plural demons and the form of torment they are practicing is to pull their victim in different directions (_dis_trahere), thus driving him to distraction (in the sense of mental anguish).
