John Mackie has sent a summary of the key messages from his address at the NATECLA conference and concludes his notes with
Finally, I appreciate that many of you will want to know what’s happening about funding for the discretionary learner support fund in 2008/09. Ministers are currently considering the need for further funding however we are not in a position to give a further update at this time and will communicate information as we get it.

At the NATECLA conference in July, John Mackie from DIUS said that a decision was imminent and they were just sorting out which budget it should come out of - but everything seems to have gone very quiet since then.
