Please find below details of 2 PhD studentships available at the University of Brighton (details revised)


Applications are invited from suitably qualified graduates for two collaborative 3 year PhD Studentship in the Division of Geography, School of Environment and Technology at the University of Brighton. Both studentships will be in partnership with Sea Space, the economic development company for Hastings and Bexhill and the University Centre Hastings. The successful candidates will have a first or good upper second-class Honours degree and normally a good Masters degree in a subject relevant to the proposed areas of research.

1) Urban Regeneration in Hastings and Bexhill. This studentship will focus on Hastings and Bexhill and will examine issues relating to regeneration, education, tourism, creative and cultural sectors.

Supervisors; Prof A Church and Prof N Ravenscroft

2) Education and Regeneration in Hasting and Bexhill. This studentship will examine issues relating to:

The role of higher education in the regeneration process
The impacts of higher education expansion on local communities
Widening participation in further and higher education

Supervisors; Prof A Church and Dr D Smith

The University of Brighton is closely involved in the regeneration process in Hastings and Bexhill and is the lead higher education provider at the University Centre Hastings which opened in 2004-5 with funding support from Sea Space and the South East England Development Agency. The student’s work will be mainly based at University Centre Hastings in the Coastal Regeneration Research Centre.
